Position Summary:
Detour Coffee Roasters is seeking to hire a quality focused, detail oriented
crew member to join our Hamilton based roasting team. The primary responsibilities of the
position include supporting the roasting team in all aspects of coffee roasting, including learning
systems and processes which enable the roastery to accomplish its weekly production goals.
The ideal candidate is passionate and curious about coffee and is able to work independently or
as part of a team. Prior experience working in a warehouse based environment is desirable but
not necessary. Responsibilities will expand as the individual progresses with the work. This position is for an existing vacancy.
Responsibilities:
- Assist roasting team in all aspects of coffee roasting, including weighing, blending and
- preparing coffee for roasting.
- Assist in weighing and blending blend components for the coffee blends.
- Ensure accuracy in weighed quantities and product quality.
- Maintain organized shelves and storage locations.
- Report shortages, damages, or inventory discrepancies to the manager.
- Operate the optical sorter using the correct profiles and according to the parameters set
- by the roasting team.
- Keep the roasting area clean and follow cleaning schedules as needed.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including health and safety guidelines.
- Wear required PPE and report any unsafe conditions immediately.
- Coordinate with Head Roaster and fellow team members to meet daily production goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Roaster.
Skill Requirements:
- Heavy lifting (50 pounds above waist) is integral to this position, including repetitive
- motions in a loud production facility.
- Maintain a positive attitude with a willingness to step up and help others.
- Possess mechanical aptitude and a keen eye for detail, especially around roasting
- equipment.
- Ability to remain productive and on task while working alone or in a team environment
- Must be punctual and reliable
- Excellent communication and listening skills in a team setting
Physical Requirements:
- Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
- Able to bend, stoop and kneel
- Pull, push, lift (above waist), or carry up to 50 pounds
- Ascend and descend ladders, stairs and ramps
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in warehouse, food production or cafe settings is an asset
Pay and Schedule:
- $18 to $20 per hour
- Part-time
- Shift - 09:00 AM to 02:00 PM, Monday to Thursday
- Hours are subject to change with prior notice
- This position is currently part-time with the potential to become full-time

Compensation
